Closing Ceremony of the U.S. Funded Youth Against Corruption Summer Camp

Hammamet, 4 August 2023—Closing Ceremony of the U.S. Funded Youth Against Corruption Summer Camp

Ambassador Joey Hood attended the closing ceremony of the Youth Against Corruption Summer Camp. The event was organized as part of the U.S. Embassy funded “Increasing Accountability in Tunisia” project, in partnership with the National Center for State Courts.

Highlighting the importance of promoting anti-corruption values, the summer camp featured the “IDEBATE4TRANSPARENCY” national inter-university debate competition, bringing together 48 students from law schools in Tunis, Sousse, Sfax, Gabes, and Jendouba. These young minds engaged in thought-provoking debates on corruption issues and participated in enriching panels and discussions.

A total of 130 law students, including 99 women and 31 men, actively participated in the qualification rounds held in April and May 2023, showcasing their dedication to combat corruption and promote transparency.

Prior to the debates, the participants attended rigorous training sessions on debate techniques, empowering them to utilize Anti-Corruption Debate and Education as tools to raise awareness and pursue joint initiatives for a corruption-free society.

Beyond empowering students, the “Increasing Accountability in Tunisia” project works to strengthen Tunisian institutions responsible for fighting financial corruption. It empowers personnel within institutions such as the Court of Accounts and the Financial Judicial Pole, offering training and tools to prevent, detect, investigate, prosecute, and adjudicate corruption cases. Additionally, the project actively supports institutional decentralization and digitization to enhance transparency and efficiency.
